Rest in Peace, Geraldine Ferraro

Geraldine Ferraro, a Democratic United States Congresswoman who was chosen as Walter Mondale’s running mate in the 1984 presidential election, died on Saturday due to complications from blood cancer.

Ferraro’s vice presidential bid was the first by a woman from a major political party, and it paved the way for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential run, as well as John McCain naming half-term Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate that same year.

  1. Was surprised to hear that she had been battling blood cancer for years. The last time I remember seeing her was in 2008, when she was criticizing media coverage in the Obama vs. Hillary primaries. A notable American figure has gone, and I hope she was not suffering much before she left us.
