Walker: there’s Madison and then there’s the rest of Wisconsin

Speaking about the results of last week’s spring elections, Republican Governor Scott Walker said there’s two different worlds in Wisconsin, saying, “I think it’s pretty clear that you have two very different worlds in this state. You have a world driven by Madison and a world driven by everybody else in the state of Wisconsin.” While Gov. Walker’s statement feeds into the notion held by many conservatives that Madison is unlike the rest of the state, the reality is a good portion of the state actually voted against Walker’s preferred Supreme Court candidate, Justice David Prosser, as the image below clearly demonstrates.

By my count, a majority of voters in 31 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties cast their votes in favor of JoAnne Kloppenburg, so clearly there’s the 31 counties that voted for JoAnne Kloppenburg and there’s the rest of Wisconsin.

  1. Let me rephrase that a bit: “I think it’s pretty clear that you have two very different worlds in this state. You have a world driven by Brookfield and a world driven by everybody else in the state of Wisconsin.”
