Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner resigns his office, apologizes for the embarrassment he caused.
In a brief statement to reporters interrupted repeatedly by a heckler, the New York congressman apologized “for the personal mistakes I have made and for the embarrassment I have caused” to his neighbors, to his constituents and “particularly to my wife.”
“Unfortunately, the distraction that I have created” made it “impossible” to continue working in Congress, Weiner said.
After a brief period of time out of the public eye, no doubt we’ll see Anthony Weiner’s second act: a job in the media.
I have yet to hear a good explanation for why some prominent Democrats asked for Weiner to resign, but not President Clinton? Sure Weiner lied, but he didn’t commit perjury.
