Henry E. Tyler, former executive administrator of the L.E.A.D.E.R Institute, was also ordered to pay more than $160,000 in restitution and will have three years of supervised release after his prison term.
While U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman acknowledged Tyler had positives in his background, he ordered a prison sentence to act as a deterrent to others.
“This is a serious offense,” he said.
Tyler, 39, agreed to plead guilty to the charges in March, according to court records. By doing so, Tyler acknowledged that he defrauded a federal food program of $196,000, using part of the money for personal expenses.
