This sounds like something that would do well here in Cudahy…
The new Cermak Fresh Market is at 1541 Miller Park Way, adjacent to a Target store which includes a grocery department that expanded just over a year ago. Cermak will emphasize its fresh produce section as well as selling food that appeals to shoppers from a variety of ethnic heritages, including Mexican, Polish, German, Italian, Greek and Indian, Bousis said.
The 60,000-square-foot store’s features include homemade tortillas, a full-service bakery, a large meat department, and a deli with a seating area. It amounts to a $15 million investment, including the building, its fixtures and other expenses, Bousis said.
While there are already two Pick-N-Save grocery stores within close proximity to Cudahy (St. Francis and Cudahy), I like the idea of a grocery store that has a larger variety of ethnic foods. What’s more, Cermak stays fully staffed during its hours of operation, meaning that you’ll never find the bakery or deli closed if you make an early morning or late night trip to the store.
I think a Cermak would be a great addition to Cudahy, and it’s too bad we have to settle for a truck depot on a parcel of land that would be perfect for a mixed-use development that included a Cermak Fresh Market as an anchor.
