Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner breaks two bones during meet-and-greet

Though I disagree with virtually everything he stands for, here’s hoping Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner gets well soon.

It was supposed to be a normal meet-and-greet for U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner at the St. Agnes Parish Festival in the Village of Butler.

But then the Republican congressman from Menomonee Falls overlooked some wires on the ground Saturday, tripped, fell and fractured two bones: one near his elbow and another at the hip socket, his office said in a statement Sunday.

  1. I like Jeff Christensen’s response (via FB): “I hope Mr Sensenbrenner has a speedy recovery and we can get back to the business of him being ridiculous.”

  2. What goes around comes around. That part of the bible : The wheels of GOD grind slow but very fine. Sorry Mr. Sensenbrenner, heal well but learn from it. Thanks Blog Blue.

  3. Well at least he has the best insurance in America, that should help some.

  4. I wouldn’t wish a broken bone on my worst enemy. It is the most indescribable, permeating, nauseating, and protracted pain. I don’t agree with Mr. Sensenbrenner’s politics, however, I can only imagine that he’s experiencing excruciating pain, and for that I have the greatest of sympathies for him. I hope he recovers smoothly and quickly. I’m sure he’s receiving the best medical care available, and that is to his advantage; it makes all the difference in recovery. Recovery takes a long time; lots of follow-up, many months to a year; it’s a frustrating, grueling process even in the best of circumstances – good health, good medical care, and with no postoperative complications.

I’m fairly certain that to get to his follow up appointments and physical therapy over the next year, he won’t have to agonizingly make his way to a bus stop, hopefully one with a bench, or suffer the painful wait or discouragement of missing the bus that just passed by him, nor hobble onto the bus when the next one arrives, god knows when, nor make his way from the bus stop through the hospital to the orthopedic waiting area, nor given his elevated status will he probably wait and wait and wait in the waiting room unable to find a comfortable position. And fortunately for Mr. Sensenbrenner, his employment is secure, not dependent upon his level of mobility or use of his limbs. He’s in no danger of missing his paycheck because he can’t do his job and he needn’t worry about the medical bills that will be racking up. That’s all covered, thank goodness, a load off his mind while he recovers.

I would encourage everyone to have a great deal of sympathy for Mr. Sensenbrenner, because there can be no doubt he’s currently in a great deal of pain – unimaginable pain. Yet, at the same time, I can only hope that when his morphine drip wears off he acknowledges his own humanity so he will be able to recognize that precious humanity in those that he’s been elected to serve whose circumstances are not as fortunate as his own.
