Democratic Party of Wisconsin: damned if they do, damned if they don’t

Over at The Prairie Badger, Aaron Camp is wondering why the Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) hasn’t issued a press release acknowledging that Dan Bohrod is running for State Treasurer.

Dan Bohrod, a budget analyst for the City of Madison who attempted a primary challenge to then-Democratic Wisconsin State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass in 2010, is running once again for the Democratic nomination for State Treasurer of Wisconsin in 2014.

The Wisconsin political news website WisPolitics.com ran this piece announcing that Bohrod has declared his candidacy for state treasurer, but the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has not issued a press release acknowledging that Bohrod is running for state treasurer.

Bohrod announced two weeks ago he would once again be a candidate for State Treasurer.

As to the criticisms of the DPW for not issuing a press release acknowledging Bohrod’s candidacy for Treasurer, I look at is as kind of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. Considering there is likely to be a Democratic primary in the Treasurer’s race, I’m of the belief the Democratic Party of Wisconsin should stay out of the race, lest they incur the wrath of Democrats/liberals who think the DPW shouldn’t “play favorites” in contested Democratic primaries. Further, it’s worth noting the DPW didn’t issue a press release acknowledging the entry of Madison resident Brandon White into the State Treasurer’s race, nor did they issue press releases acknowledging the candidacies of Amar Kaleka and Rob Zerban, both of whom are running to unseat Rep. Paul Ryan.

I don’t see this as being a huge issue.
