Dept. of Transportation legal chief fired after offensive email discovered through John Doe document dump

Well this is good news…

John Schulze, the chief legal counsel for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation since last spring, is no longer with the department, an agency spokesperson has confirmed. Schulze’s departure follows the release last week of an offensive email he sent in 2010 to a secret email system in Gov. Scott Walker’s former Milwaukee County office.

Peg Schmitt, public information officer for the DOT, would not confirm whether Schulze was terminated. “We do not comment on personnel matters,” she said in an email.

Schulze is perhaps the first casualty of the release last week of thousands of documents related to the John Doe probe of aides who worked with Walker when he was Milwaukee County executive. The emails revealed a secret email system that mixed county and political business.

  1. Yes, the rest of the state doesn’t think it’s ok to be racist, sexist, elitist, anti-mentally ill opportunistic aholes.

  2. Probably some more of Walker’s minions will fall on their swords before it’s all over. Unfortunately, it’s these people directly beneath Walker who will ultimately get hurt by this. Walker himself, when (not if) he finally gets caught in his own web, will be like the organized crime boss who takes a fall to protect the big bosses. Even if he does hard prison time, you can bet he will be taken care of in opulence for the rest of his life upon release. Indeed, it’s not too much of a stretch to believe there might already be vast millions deposited on Walker’s behalf in a few off-shore accounts. No matter the outcome, Walker will have the means to spend the rest of his life in luxury and ease.

Anybody wondering why Van Hollen jumped ship?

    1. “Anybody wondering why Van Hollen jumped ship?

Naaah, it’s what happens when ideology replaces a conscience. But Van Hollen will have to live the rest of his life knowing full well his inaction enabled Walker’s denial. Van Hollen’s silence during the first John Doe investigation was willful negligence.

      1. While I agree completely with your assessment of Van Hollen, I’m not sure how it relates to my rhetorical question.

I think Van Hollen bailed because he can smell the smoke and feel the heat (as an attorney, he’d have a keen nose for it), and he ain’t sure he’s close enough to the capos that he would be taken care of after he completed a potential apprenticeship in sheet metal stamping and reflective coating systems. Look for more rats to go overboard.

    2. IIRC, the timing (March???) suggested that he knew he was caught by Son of Doe, before the public knew about SoD.

Then, “Van Hollen won’t rule out high court run” http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/wisconsin-attorney-general-van-hollen-wont-rule-out-high-court-run-b99166207z1-236384751.html in December gave rise to speculation that he had cut a deal for immunity in exchange for testimony with Son of Doe.

That speculations’s worth at least half of what you paid for it.

  4. So, can we assume that Walker knew the content of these offensive emails? (No matter, he will deny knowing). In either case, his worker was not let go until the emails went public. Walker did say there was nothing new in these docs-perhaps NOT new to him but new to the public. What a douche!
