In anticipation of “Freakin’ Halloweekend” – coming Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at the High Noon Saloon in Madison – we’re taking a moment to profile and interview some of the bands who will be donning musical costumes for the occasion. Please see the schedule below.
What band are you performing as for Freakin’ Halloweekend?
Madison’s own: Garbage!
Who are your members in your band and are they in other local Madison bands? If so, what are they?

When you were younger (or heck, even now), what band/musician did you want to be (or dress up as for Halloween) when you grew up?
(Annelies) There are so many! As a child of the 80’s, I studied early MTV like it was grad school. I loved Michael Jackson the dances from Thriller and Beat it. I also loved Cyndi Lauper and Pat Benetar. A couple of years ago I got to live out a dream when I was sang in Mauston, a Boston tribute. That was a major highlight.
What do you think the band you’re being would think if they saw you? Would they be flattered? Outraged? Impressed?
I hope they’d be flattered! In order to perform as Garbage, we’ve all done our homework. It’s a lot of fun to immerse ourselves in the music and learn the parts.
Are you dressing up as the band?
Yes. It’s Halloween, after all.
What other band playing at FHW are you most excited about seeing?
I’m totally psyched to see Meghan Rose as Janis Joplin. She totally nails it, and there are fabulous players in that band. It’s especially exciting to see a tribute for an artist that (sadly) isn’t around anymore.
What experience do you want the audience to take away from your show?
We want the audience to sing and dance along with their favorite Garbage songs. We’re gonna have a kick-ass Halloween!
