If you have a minute, please consider taking this survey from the No Voucher Coalition. The survey is meant to solicit your thoughts regarding the vision for public schools here in Wisconsin in the face of attacks against our public school systems by Republicans in the Legislature.
Beginning in January, 2015, legislators will be meeting in Madison to determine the future of Wisconsin’s public schools. The choices they make will impact the lives and futures of more than 860,000 school children, their parents and other taxpayers. This survey is designed to solicit your thoughts regarding the vision for public schools, which are the heart of our local communities. Your opinion is important to us, and we hope to share aggregated survey results with you, with legislators and with the media.Did you know that public schools are a constitutional right for Wisconsin children? The Wisconsin Constitution calls for the creation of public schools that are “as nearly uniform as practicable; and such schools shall be free and without charge for tuition to all children between the ages of 4 and 20 years; an no sectarian instruction shall be allowed therein”. It was a promise made by our forefathers to future generations, recognizing that the opportunity for an equal education translates into an equal opportunity to succeed in life.Today, our local public schools are having to replace the loss of state school aid by increasing local property taxes (via referendums) and/or cutting school programs and services for students in grades K-12. This is the combined result of an outdated 20-year-old funding formula for public schools, and, also, legislators diverting state funds to support privately-run schools. The No Vouchers Coalition believes it is your right to be fully informed about the policies being discussed by legislators in Madison, because the decisions these legislators will make directly affect our children and our local communities. That’s why your input and feedback are so very important.Thank you for taking this short survey, which should take you just a few minutes to complete.
