But remember….concealed carry was supposed to make us all safer!

Remember when Wisconsin’s Republicans said passing concealed carry laws allowing Wisconsinites to act as vigilantes would make our state safer?

Yeah, not so much…

We are waiting to learn whether a person who shot and killed a Milwaukee man with a concealed carry permit will be cleared or charged with murder.

Milwaukee Police say two men reportedly got in a fender bender at 10th and Concordia Friday night.

A fight ensued, and 21-year-old Deshun Freeman was declared dead at the scene.

The 28 year old, considered a suspect at this point, drove from the scene and then called police.

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t the state murder rate gone up since concealed carry was put in place.

    Wasn’t it lower before?

    1. Marginally, the murder rate was 2.7 per 100,000 in 2010 and in 2014 it was 2.9. What your missing here is the real cause of the increase. While they put concealed carry in place, Walker and Co. also severely cut shared revenue to local governments. Since that time state wide there has been a year over year decline of about 2% in the total number of sworn law enforcement officers in the state. While murders and violent crimes have escalated in Milwaukee, pretty much the rest of the state has seen a decline. Sadly not nearly enough to offset the explosion of violent crime in Milwaukee. So a far more complex picture than just whether or not concealed carry is working as promised or not.

  2. Wow could this “article” be anymore pre-mature. Even the material you quoted from the original article makes it clear that the police haven’t determined yet if the shooting was justified or not. If justified, and the shooter is cleared, then you’ve just supported the case for concealed carry. Maybe let the case play out first huh?

  3. Except that murder rates are also up in Baltimore, St. Louis, Oakland, New Orleans, Detroit, and Washington — nationally it went up 17% in 2015. FBI Director James Comey (an Obama appointee) cites the “Ferguson Effect” — caused by the demonization and prosecution of police — for reducing needed police intervention in the prevention of crime, an observation seconded by the acting chief of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Chuck Rosenberg. No Milwaukee cop wants to be the next Christopher Manney. Of course if you think the gang bangers all applied for CCW permits, there’s not much I can do to help you.
