Trump Labels National Monuments As Federal Land Grabs

That is some interesting terminology. The various federal monuments declared by a number of US Presidents since 1906 are MASSIVE Federal Land Grabs. Millions and millions of acres are protected under a law enacted in 1906…protected by presidents since President Teddy Roosevelt are MASSIVE federal land grabs. The horror. The audacity. President Trump is concerned about this MASSIVE overreach by the federal government. He went so far as to issue another executive order to review the status of federal monuments.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday directing his interior secretary to review the designation of dozens of national monuments on federal lands, calling the protection efforts “a massive federal land grab” by previous administrations.

During a signing ceremony at the Interior Department, Trump said the order would end “another egregious abuse of federal power” and “give that power back to the states and to the people where it belongs.”

There is just one MASSIVE issue with this whole thing. This land already BELONGS to the federal government. There is no power usurped to give back to the states. There is no issue about local control. This isn’t any different than changing the zoning of the land…from open federal lands to a federal monument.

The states and local governments have no say unless the federal government cedes or sells the land. Until then it belongs equally to every American citizen no matter where in the nation they live. It belongs as much to you as anyone in Utah or Nevada or Maine. This is just another MASSIVE waste of time on the part of President Trump so that he can appear to be doing something when in fact he is doing absolutely nothing in the least bit useful.
