I certainly understand the our medical decisions are personal. But given that Sec. Austin essentially disappeared into a hospital for days without notifying the president and didn’t even tell his second in command what was going on…and possibly leaving the nation at risk when two major wars threaten to bring about a bigger conflict…there is no reason that Austin should retain his job. Apparently his current hospitalization is for an infection that probably resulted from an earlier surgical procedure for prostrate cancer. A scary and daunting personal tribulation but as the nation’s defense leader…he let the entire nation down. And he’s sullied the reputation of the Pentagon and called into question the faith that the president has put in him. So he should resign. That would be a preferable move to having the president remove him directly. He has served his country admirably…until now. Please resign.
