Breaking (but unconfirmed) Tommy Thompson Won’t Run for U.S. Senate

Firedoglake is reporting that Tommy Thompson will not run against Senator Russ Feingold for the U.S. Senate.  According to their reporting:

“According to sources who have spoken with TODAY’S TMJ4 HD’s Charles Benson, former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson says he will not run for Senator Russ Feingold’s seat.”

Other reports are coming in that a spokesperson has stated he is unlikely to run, although supposedly Tommy Thompson is still cagily stating he’s not sure if he’ll run or not according to the AP.

“The only person who knows what I’m going to do is myself and I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

  1. Tommy’s set to appear at the AFP rally tomorrow in Madison, and it’s being speculated he’ll announce his decision tomorrow.

Best case scenario for Sen. Feingold’s reelection involves Thompson announcing he won’t run and then endorsing Dick Leinenkugel.

  2. I had to laugh at Chuck Todd’s description of him on Twitter, calling him – Tommy “Favre” Thompson. 🙂
