Gunman kills three Pittsburgh cops, blames possible gun ban

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and “lying in wait” opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, according to Pittsburgh police. The subject, Richard Poplawski, met officers at the doorway when they responded to a domestic disturbance call and shot two of them in the head immediately, and a third officer who tried to help the two also was killed.

While an exact motive for Poplawski’s actions is unclear, Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper indicated friends said Poplawski recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns. According to the story on Yahoo, Poplawski had feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon,” said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.

  1. When horrific events like this happen I really cringe when people try to make it political. The only reason why this individual decided he was going to commit cold-blooded murder by shooting the cops who came to his house is because he is deranged/evil. May God be with the family and friends of the fallen police officers.

  2. Anon, I agree. My biggest concern with all the “Obama is going to take our guns” hysteria that followed him winning the presidency was that some individuals were going to take that hysteria too far and act out in a manner like this.

  3. What I am so eagerly waiting for is the news accounts of his decline into mental illness and how Government Run Health Care could have solved everything……

This whole thing started over a DOG…..peeing in the neighbors yard and escalated from there.

This guy was a head case NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!

  4. Usually people who have an unhealthy dependence on guns are mentally ill. Others may need psychological intervention to ween them off. First indication, voting for a politician who will screw you yet promises to protect your “gun rights.”

The fact that this did start over a dog peeing on his lawn and the guy’s ability to quickly lay hands on his arsenal. Doesn’t it tell you some common sense is needed.
