Franklin school board considers student representation

This is an absolutely great idea:

Board member Janet Evans, who chairs the Community/Governmental Relations Committee, said she envisions having a “team or rotating team” of students that would brief the board on events and issues at the high school, and offer student input on board discussions.

As a new board member, Evans said she noticed that a student voice is lacking on the board.

“There’s a disconnect,” she said. “If I’m here for the students, I’d like to hear from the students.”

If approved by the Franklin School District and the school board, the student representation would go into effect beginning next school year. As I wrote above, I think this is a great idea. I’d love to see something along these lines considered in South Milwaukee, but sadly, I just don’t see our school board taking any action to allow students to have more of a voice on the school board.

  1. Hooey. I want leadership from the School Board not listening skills. School Boards have listened far too much already. Adults need to ensure that the young have an education that permits them to function in society. No child can provide you wisdom in that regard.
If she is there for the children, instead of their education, she will not be performing her responsbilities to parents or to society as a whole. I don’t particularly care what children think of their education. They have no foundation on which to base an opinion. And if the school board is concerned about the same things as children, then they have failed their responsiblities.
The very name of the committee is demonstrative of the problem with school boards. It is not about relationships. Never was.It is about educating our young.
