Conservative pastor wishes for Obama to die

In yet another installment of “Those Classy Conservatives,” listen to pastor Steven L. Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona as he hopes for President Barack Obama to be stricken with brain cancer and die like Sen. Ted Kennedy:

So here’s what I’m wondering….is hoping for the death of another human being a Christian value?

  1. The Secret Service has interviewed Mr. Anderson. They don’t like it when people talk about the president dying for any reason. This was the preacher whose sermon was attended by the guy who went to Obama’s event with an assault rifle the very next day. Coincidence? Possibly. And legal under Arizona state law. That doesn’t make it necessary or appropriate. If that happened under Bush, the carrier would likely be locked up very fast and for a long time.

    1. Anderson is a kook, plain and simple.

It just doesn’t strike me as very Christian to hope that someone dies, but perhaps pastor Anderson is more of an Old Testament guy.

    1. Please tell why this story showing up on a Fox affiliate has anything to do with ANYTHING?
Fox reported it. If Fox is so terrible, wouldn’t they have suppressed the story?

This guy is a loon…… His words or thoughts do NOT reflect conservatives values. Obama is a man like any other and deserves that respect. I don’t dislike him as a person, I dislike his political ideology.

  2. Once again…religion…or a religious hypocrite is the center of such hate.

    I’m “shocked”…yada…yada…yada…

  3. You are right, it’s not Christian to wish death on someone, especially coming from a supposed pastor.

I guess Wanda Sykes would fall into the same category.

And NPR and former ABC News reporter Nina Totenberg for wishing death on Jesse Helms
(“I think he ought to be worried about what’s going on in the Good Lord’s mind, because if there is retributive justice, he’ll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it.”)

And USA Today columnist and radio talk show host Julianne Malveaux wishing death on Clearance Thomas (“The man is on the Court. You know, I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease. Well, that’s how I feel. He is an absolutely reprehensible person.”)

Again, I’m sure you have some smug superiority pointing out that some nutty fringe pastor says something reprehensible. But you seem to ignore the fact that it cuts both ways. I’m sure no wacky liberals ever wished death upon President Bush, yet I bet you didn’t bother once to post that just because this is a liberal blog. The examples I cited were ‘legitimate’ members of media.
