As if having 3 bars on every block wasn’t enough, on Tuesday Cudahy Aldermen will consider changing a city ordinance to allow more stores in Cudahy to sell alcohol. At this time, the number of Class A licenses in Cudahy is limited to one for every 4,000 residents, and the proposed change would lower that standard to one license for every 2,000 residents. Class A licenses are issued to sellers of packaged beer, wine and liquor, such as liquor stores, grocery stores, drug stores and other retailers, and a Class A license is different from the license issued to taverns.
Given the high number of bars/taverns in Cudahy (at least from my perspective), I can’t help but wonder if it’s really necessary to increase the number of liquor stores, grocery stores, and retailers that can sell alcohol.
We drove through looking for a place to eat. Damn if we could, though! Plenty of places to drink, but seemingly none to eat at — unless you count fast food. We gave up and went to 27th Street.
There are some good places to eat; not all are easy to find though. Ultimately, I just don’t know that Cudahy needs more places to get alcohol; the market seems pretty saturated as it is.
