From the group U.S. Action comes news of a strategy and planning meeting tomorrow on the subject of job creation. Here’s the announcement:
Largest Jobs Coalition to Host National Jobs Strategy Meeting in Washington
Coalition of Local and National Advocacy Groups Will Meet to Coordinate Campaign for Job CreationWashington – Tomorrow at 10:00 am Jobs for America Now, the nation’s largest jobs coalition, will convene a strategy session and planning meeting on job creation. This meeting will shape a national organizing agenda to influence the political debate about the economy and jobs and push for solutions to help America get back to work. The strategy session will bring together grassroots, labor, civil rights, social justice, elected official affiliated groups, unemployed workers and congressional staff.
With millions of Americans unable to find work today, more than 6.5 million people have been unemployed for more than six months, advocates are working to convince members of Congress to create jobs and bring long-lasting benefits to our communities. Jobs for America Now has expressed support for the Local Jobs for America Act, introduced by Chairman George Miller (D-Calif.) of the House Education and Labor committee and has delivered a letter of support with more than 300 organizational signatures to House Democratic leadership. The Local Jobs for America Act has more than 140 co-sponsors in the House.
Twice before in the past 75 years, the federal government has responded to an economic crisis to take action to directly put people to work and there is broad agreement within the Jobs for America Now coalition, grassroots community groups and among local elected and progressive economists that now is the time to do this again. If we can find the money to bail out Wall Street, we can certainly find the money to help Main Street recover.
***Alan Charney, campaign manager for Jobs for America Now, is available to discuss the meeting, the critical importance of jobs legislation to workers in across the country, and the work that local and national groups are doing to push for job creation.

There are only two effective ways for government to ‘create’ jobs. Increase the government’s purchases of American made goods and services OR flat out hire people. Tax credits and incentives aren’t the answer.
You’ve got to be kidding.
So how many jobs are the recent job creation bill gonna create? And if it’s a good idea why was the Republican Party so darn set against it?
