Yesterday the Feingold Campaign announced the formation of Sportsmen and Women for Russ, a group of over 480 Wisconsinites who stand behind Sen. Feingold’s commitment to Wisconsin hunters, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts and who have endorsed Feingold’s reelection. Here’s more from the press release sent out by Sen. Feingold’s campaign:
Support from Sportsmen and Women for Russ:
“My family are deer hunters and I support Russ because he stands up for our Second Amendment rights.”
–Pamela Honold, Sturgeon Bay
“Russ Feingold is a standup guy who has always supported sportsmen and gun enthusiasts.”
–John Newton, Fall River
“Protecting the environment is just as important to a hunter as protecting gun rights and I’m convinced Russ will do a better job than his opponent.”
–Derk Lesniak, Ripon
“Russ is intelligent and actually comprehends the Constitution. He is an individual who stands on his own feet and would never take the Second Amendment away from us.”
–Joann Muir, NRA member, Park Falls
“I am a fan of Russ Feingold because he has always respected and been a friend to the sports of hunting and fishing.”
–Dennis Gaines, Lakewood

While 400+ liberals came out in support of Russ, The National Rifle Association endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Ron Johnson on Tuesday, saying it can trust the Republican newcomer to defend the Second Amendment.
Yep, because Johnson filled out a survey with the answers the NRA wanted. Good for him, but I bet I could get an A rating from the NRA based on 32 questions. Meanwhile, Feingold gets a C despite his opposition to an assault weapon ban, because he voted to confirm President Obama’s SC picks, who the NRA views as “anti-gun.” Feingold also voted to confirm John Roberts, because….the president won the last election and gets to nominate who they want.
Not that I completely disagree with the NRA’s assessment based on perceived judicial philosophy. It irritated me listening to the pro-choice left rail against the Roberts and Alito nominations, but there really is a fight for choice going on, each and every day. I know what side of that fight I’m on, and what needs to be done to get there and stay there.
Also, the NRA knows if first-time candidate Johnson became first-time Senator Johnson he will march in lockstep with the career politicians in GOP leadership he claims to disdain except when they’re fundraising for him.
“Also, the NRA knows if first-time candidate Johnson became first-time Senator Johnson he will march in lockstep with the career politicians in GOP leadership he claims to disdain except when they’re fundraising for him.”
And that’s precisely why the NRA wants Ron Johnson as Senator, because they know he’ll do their bidding without question.
Sort of like the way the Russ marches in lock step on abortion and supports the termination of life 100%
Come on Notalib, get with the talking points. That just makes him “mavericky!”
So if Russ truly stands up for 2nd amendment rights and always supports gun enthusiasts as those quotes above say, why don’t you think Russ will do “the bidding” of the NRA? Sounds like you are trying to have it both ways — Johnson is in lockstep with the NRA which is bad, but it’s ok because Feingold is in lockstep with the NRA and that’s good.
I’d say it’s pretty clear Russ doesn’t do the bidding of the NRA, considering he voted to confirm two SC justices the NRA opposed.
Sportsmen?! Gasp, sounds like a special interest to me. 😛
So sick of Feingold commercials telling us how he will fight to keep jobs in Wisconsin. If that’s true, then he obviously has not been doing his job thus far. Why waste my vote on more of the same?
As 1% of the United States Senate there’s only so much a guy can do.
Wisconsin’s job losses are in part a result of “free trade” agreements like NAFTA and CAFTA, which have resulted in well-paying manufacturing jobs which were so common in Wisconsin being outsourced to places like Mexico. If memory serves me, Sen. Feingold has never voted in favor of a free trade agreement.
There are times where I can see the Republicans are just plain wrong. They’re on the wrong side of a losing battle, they just don’t know it yet. Gay marriage is one such issue.
On the left, you guys have free trade. You’re just plain wrong. Barriers to trade are a losing battle – the world is only getting smaller and political lines drawn on a map more arbitrary. Economists know this. Republicans know it. Bill Clinton knew it. Hell, Aaron Sorkin’s West Wing Democrats knew it. 🙂 But for some reason, a bunch of people on the left – many of them, using the issue to take advantage of xenophobia and nationalism for political gain – just don’t know it.
I’m not opposed to trade agreements, so long as those trade agreements are both “free” and fair.
Please explain. NAFTA eliminated most tariffs between US, Canada & Mexico – eventually fading out almost all of them. There are still a few exceptions – though honestly, as far as I can tell, what remains is slanted more towards the US than against. In particular, our culture of “cheap corn at any price” subsidies hurts Mexican farmers. But I know many anti-NAFTA folks don’t give a crap about poor Mexicans. A fried of mine showed me a flyer he was given from his union back when NAFTA was being debated. Among other things, it said, “If passed, your job will go to lazy, greasy Mexicans workers.” I only wish I were exaggerating. I used quotes because that’s literally what it said. Could be that it was just one branch of one union – but I doubt it. I should be clear – I’m not ascribing that attitude to you.
I’ll admit, I haven’t read nearly as much about CAFTA, so I’m sort of assuming it’s not terribly different than NAFTA. Correct me if I’m wrong.
And our trade agreements with China are clearly a very different can of worms. We don’t have C(hina)FTA – we’re a long way from what could be accurately called free trade there. It’s a delicate…hell it’s a bitch of a situation that is a long ways from reaching an equilibrium that everyone loves. We need them, they need us & we’ll get there eventually. But the path – and the end goal is less tariffs not more.
But again, what is it about NAFTA that you think is so unfair?
Locke travel WI and look at every small town and see the shuttered doors of most small factories that made WI one of the manufacturing strongholds in the US pre-reagan.
I never saw that union ad, but I remember Perot saying that there will be a loud sucking sound of jobs leaving the US and he could not of been more correct. I dont care who he slept with, Passing NAFTA was a huge black eye on the Clinton Administration. Its sickening if they sent that ad out, because its not about the mexican workers, they lost just like the American workers did with NAFTA. The reason the jobs are not in Mexico anymore is because all countries want in on the “free” trade bandwagon. So jobs that went to Mexico are being sent elsewhere for even cheaper labor.
The problem is like the myth of the “free” market, there is no such thing as “free” trade. We are at what a $500 billion trade deficit. The problem with NAFTA/CAFTA etc… is we don’t enforce any of the provisions. When countries can pollute, pay their people slave wages, etc… with no repercussions they are going to win. I prefer to lose than race them to the bottom.
As for Communist China, not only are they manipulating their currency to screw us, they are also heavily subsidizing their companies so they have a huge competitive advantage over our companies. They also charge many tariffs for us to ship things in there and we do not do the same. granting them most favored trade status was a MAJOR mistake and has been very costly.
Actually he has been fighting to keep jobs in WI. Unfortunately, he has been outnumbered by the Ron Johnsons, Paul Ryans and Jimmy Sensenbrenners in congress.
Last I checked, there weren’t any Ron Johnsons in Congress. But I know you guys are so desperate that just making stuff up about people is kosher.
I can just as accurately say that the Russ Feingolds and Proud Progressives of the world hit my dog with their car.
LOL…
that’s assuming they own a car…you know us libs all use public transit don’t you? LOL!
Funny. 🙂
I know most of you say you take public transit.
I say I’m not a DQ Blizzard addict.
Let’s not squabble. 🙂
I thought most of us either used public transit, biked, or walked.
If a voting block, such as the NRA, gets exactly what it wants from a proven commodity like Senator Feingold, but then continues to complain and endorses the OTHER guy anyway –
Then you know this is a Red Herring Issue (yes even for the NRA). Likewise, if the Tea Party and other conservative groups rant about how bad the PATRIOT Act is for Our Freedoms, but then stab the whistle-blower in the back (PATRIOT ACT and Russ? remember him at ALL people?), well you know Humans have not changed since the days of Cassandra but also – it proves these are not the main issues, not the goals. Just nice emotional distractions.
Just like Abortion.
The goals of the Republican party and it’s wealthy behind-the-curtain cohorts are about Other Things. If they can hook various unrelated and highly emotional groups in to support them, they will.
If you are afraid of Muslims and Mosques, or Blacks or Mexicans, or S-O-C-I-A-L-I-S-M !!!! woooooooooo !
they will be most happy to hook you in. They do not care about dead fetuses, they don’t even care about “God”. This is proven in 2 ways
First in actually being grounded in TRADITIONAL Christianity which is never heard from now. Most of what the general public is exposed to re: Christianity is of the post-Hippie Let’s-Make-Our-Own-Church variety.
Crystal Cathedrals full of Passively Happy People who passively rejoice in Passivity.
Christine O’Donnell’s interpretation of her famous Bible passage on Lust takes the meaning out of context. Please charge me with arrogance because I am going to say straight out that was NOT Jesus’ point in that passage. What O’Donnell did was that same as if for example Jesus ACTUALLY said “It is wrong to kill people” and some latter-day nut-job religionist cuts off the first part and preaches with conviction
…..”and so Jesus said- “Kill People”
Okay Douche, NOT what he said. If any of those so-called religious people actually “feared God” in the least, they would not be tempting him so sorely.
And apparently someone higher up than God has down-graded Greed off of the Seven Deadlies. Ditto Gluttony and Pride. These things are all openly worshiped by the Religious Right, what religion are they following exactly? Nothing earns greater contempt than the suggestion that Lawmakers put any kinds of limits on GREED. So, what religions IS this? I can’t tell at all. But no one seems to call them on it, I guess because so many Hip Churches are grabbing Guitars and sitting around singing the Who Song in lieu of actual education in the tenets of the religion they are ostensibly following. Makes for ass-loads of self-congratulatory conspicuously-pious Lemmings who will drink whatever Kool-aid and support whatever charlatan their TV zealots tell them to.
We as a nation are full of Bullshit Christians, who take this or that phrase and make their own (and often political) use of it. Fad pastors who appeal to people’s base emoticons are what is left. Groups like that are easily manipulated by people with grander agendas.
—>The important goals for the Republicans will all be Globally Economic and Military.<—
Why would they care about this other crap? They don't. It's illogical in the extreme to think they do.
So much more amusing for "them" that Tea Party people THINK they're supporting anti-globalism etc. Joke will be on youze guys. Fractioning everyone in to little warring groups blinded by fear and hate for Those Guys Over There are just in the best interest of these larger global-restructuring goals. My own paranoid fantasy? oh really? They all told you straight out what they want years ago, and it WAAAY involves globalism. RoJo wants globalism, the Plastics Industry wants globalism, the jobs he will create will NOT be here. But they will funnel money here – to Ron's bank account here. This is what was behind his little rant about China. NOT that he is haha Chairman Mao. Angry little Democrat boys so tired of being called "communist" and sooo happy to do it back, they didn't even look at what might be what makes RoJo really dangerous. He wants to create jobs alright, but NOT here.
In mutherfuckin CHINA kids. China, where the morning sun shines on rivers that flow with arsenic and melamine. Yesss! All Hail The Great Job Creator!!!!
But. I'm glad Russ did this Sportsman and Women thing anyway. I'm glad he is hitting campuses, and that he dragged Obama to UW-Madison. I'm glad he did a beautiful job of re-vamping his classic ad. That was really perfect.
Ganbatte Russ, where ever you are!!!! You're doing a great job of navigating the Fire Swamp even though the Six-Fingered Man is hot on your heels. 🙂 And, it's still all about the Independents, these other 'tards can say/do whatever they want. The important thing will be what goes on inside the quieter Independent people's heads, people who are not anybody's obedient minion. Unless the Teas get ass-loads of uninvolved backwoods types to vote. But then if so, there's nothing you can do about that. Then it's just a sad sad footnote of History. With crappy results we'll have to live with for years. yuck.
But no matter, I can turn to Christine "Legion" O'Donnell and Glenn "Mammon" Beck for spiritual guidance, their words are lamps unto my feet, a light unto my path.
O_o and Lol
Correction they are dead babies.
