Bus-mounted bike rack usage doubles from 2010 to 2011

According to the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS), bus drivers recorded 47,995 instances in 2010 where bus passengers used bike racks installed on MCTS buses in 2009.

While that number fell well short of the 100,000 uses projected by the transit system, it’s worth noting that through the first four months of the year, MCTS drivers counted 12,695 bikes on bus racks, a number that’s doubled since the same period in 2010. Month-to-month usage of the bus bike racks in 2011 has doubled usage from 2010, and if that pace continues usage would come very close to meeting the usage projections made by MCTS.
