Are Conservative Brains Really This Stupid?

Megan Mcardle at the Daily Beast has an idea for students the next time confronted by a crazy with a gun.

“I’d also like us to encourage people to gang rush shooters, rather than following their instincts to hide; if we drilled it into young people that the correct thing to do is for everyone to instantly run at the guy with the gun, these sorts of mass shootings would be less deadly, because even a guy with a very powerful weapon can be brought down by 8-12 unarmed bodies piling on him at once. Would it work? Would people do it? I have no idea; all I can say is that both these things would be more effective than banning rifles with pistol grips.”

Imagine, if you will, five and six-year olds mustering the courage to gangrush the shooter at Newtown.  F*cking clueless.

Pile on.

  1. The good news is that the children of this country, who are now rightly concerned about their safety at the hands of armed nut-jobs, will see how absolutely, incoherently-insane the conservatives and Republicans are. I am looking forward to watching the GOP eat itself alive. In it’s current form, it has outlived any useful function it may once have performed in society and deserves to go the way of the Whigs.

  2. The scariest thing about this mindset is that some people, a lot of people (cough*FoxNewsAudience*cough) will actually do this. They will tell little children that when they see a gun they should run toward that person and tackle them. Can you imagine the accidental shootings/killings this could cause? A little kid sees some idiot in a store with a gun in his belt and runs up to him and the guy freaks out and the gun goes off. This person should apologize and back track immediately and BEG people to forget what she said. Idiot.

  3. To be fair, I think (and hope) that most conservatives would not think this is a good idea either. But God knows that I’ve been proven wrong by some of their ridiculous stances…so who knows?

The question is if, on this post, we get conservatives that defend this idea or support or simply decide to stay quiet and not weigh in.

    1. Adam Schabow, the voice of reason, is correct. Most PEOPLE, and that includes left, right, center and everybody else would agree, bad idea for kids.

I suspect the sentiment of the linked article, and this may be a stretch, was that rushing a shooter could limit the damage by ending the episode. Much as limiting the capacity of a magazine could limit the damage done by a shooter. It is still a losing endeavor, but,..

I would agree with the “rush” tactic in a general sense, by police and even citizens have done this. Flight 93/911 comes to mind.

      1. BS. The right wing laps this up like nectar from god. If it weren’t for Obama, they would control the entire country. Wake up.

  4. My thoughts exactly, when I heard that bird brain. Just a hint, I have “conservatives” in my family who would NEVER make a comment like that.

  5. Ladies and gentlemen, your conservative party on display. If they are this drooling on the floor stupid about gun control, what makes you think they are any better on economic or foreign policy?

  6. These shooters consistantly are on phsychadelic drugs like PROZAC. It says right on the bottle may cause suicidal tendencies. You dont see them curing the cause and outlawing prozac because it s not on the political agenda. Let me ask you which room would you prefer to have your children in, in the case of a shoot out. The classroom where the teacher has a gun locked away for emergencies or the one room where the gunman comes in and the teacher is unarmed?

      1. Also, am I missing something? These huge increase of mass shootings has not been just at schools. Does that mean you believe every movie theater should have a gun? Every Sikh Temple should have a gun?

Look, study after study has proven that more guns do not diminish violence. I\’m sorry, but having more guns in an area where kids congregate is just a bad idea. That should be common sense. I\’m hoping and praying that regular every day conservative Joes aren\’t sucked into this type of rhetoric. It\’s just not a reasonable solution.

        1. There are armed officers and increased security at airports due to an incident known as 911. Why? To insure airport and flight saftey. Terrorism continues to be fought.
At this point, increased school security is not far fetched. Adam is correct, this does not diminish violence. It protects our children.
