AG candidate Richards releases statement on lapses in child predator tip investigations

Yesterday Gina Barton of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that contrary to what Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has indicated, at least 43 tips related to child predators were not investigated in a timely manner. In response to those revelations, Democratic Attorney General candidate Jon Richards released a statement calling for a full and independent investigation of the delays.

“When this matter first became public several weeks ago, Attorney General Van Hollen insisted that problems related to un-investigated tips about child predators were an isolated problem of two or three cases. Rather than address the issue, he levied personal attacks. Today’s report makes clear that the problem is far from isolated, and we still don’t know the full extent of the problem.

“As I said then, protecting our children from online predators must be a top priority of the Attorney General. And being truthful and transparent should be a core tenet of taxpayer-funded agencies.

“As I said when these problems first came to light, it’s simply not enough to blame ‘rogue’ employees and say an ‘internal review’ indicates no systemic problem exists.

“I reiterate my call for a full, independent investigation. We need a full public accounting of the problem to ensure the Van Hollen-led Department of Justice can manage the task of going after child predators.

“The Attorney General’s mismanagement has led to known cases in which children were victimized. This is simply unacceptable, and it’s past time for a full, independent investigation.”

  1. C’mon, give our overworked AJ a break! Defending Alec’s legislation is more important than taking child predators off the street.

And with elections not that far off, Van Hollen has his hands full preventing ,00002 OR 7 illegals voting for Burke to narrowly defeat Walker. Yeah, yeah, I know Scotty’s racist and anti-elderly bills will suppress the black, brown, and grey turnout; however, JB’s staff has to be prepared to justify tactics by GOP storm troopers monitoring the polls for seven dead or twin voters.

So Walker’s mouthpiece will continue to be very busy this year, but Van Hollen can be consoled by the fact that out there in oligarchy-land is a cushy, million buck job waiting for the RIGHT former state AJ and a voter suppression well done.
