Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen: a genuine, grade-A jackass

It’s official – Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is a grade-A jackass.

Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said Thursday that same-sex couples who have wed in recent days are not married in the eyes of the law and that county clerks issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples could be prosecuted.

“You do have many people in Wisconsin basically taking the law into their own hands and there can be legal repercussions for that,” Van Hollen said. “So, depending on who believes they’re married under the law and who doesn’t believe they’re married under the law may cause them to get themselves in some legal problems that I think are going to take years for them and the courts to work out.”

Responding to Van Hollen’s threats that county clerks who issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples could be arrested and prosecuted, Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell evoked the civil rights protests of the 1960s, saying, “He needs to call off the dogs and turn off the fire hoses.”

  1. Zach, thanks.

Has JB given up all hope of a run at the State Supreme Court? I wonder if rumors of his plea deal with Doe prosecutors have turned out to be unreliable? Maybe the plea is still in place, but the latest legal maneuverings means that the unflattering details will become public?

Loved this from my time line.

I issued two. Come at me, bro. I dare you. http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/van-hollen-clerks-issuing-licenses-to-gay-couples-could-be-charged-b99289932z1-262892731.html

  2. This man has to look around and see what’s happening across the country. To intimidate county clerks is ridiculous. The sooner he leaves office the better. His idea of justice is to ignore your party’s violations, such as the public trust doctrine relative to the mining bill and the rape of our ground water but to try and prosecute the fake vote fraud crisis that does not exist in WISCONSIN.

    1. And let us not forget state prosecution of singers in the state capitol. Getting all his conservative creds in line for his next employer. Like a monkey in the trees who doesn’t let go of one branch until the next branch is gripped, don’t believe a word about him being unsure about his next, “professional,” position.

These whiners who keep claiming we need more certainty, are never uncertain about where their next dark money paycheck or public trough meal is coming from. Walker, Schimel, Kleefisch(s)…

  3. So… when a law you’re enforcing has been ruled unconstitutional, WHO is taking the law into their own hands?
