President Obama: I’d love a constitutional amendment to reverse Citizens United (VIDEO)

Yes, yes, YES!

Barack Obama has a radical idea for how to reform campaign finance: amend the Constitution.

The president told Vox in an exclusive interview that he wants to see such a drastic change, because he thinks the money-in-politics status quo is so damaging to our political system.

Arguing that “unlimited money” in politics is a key cause of polarization, Obama said, “I would love to see some constitutional process that would allow us to actually regulate campaign spending the way we used to, and maybe even improve it.”

  1. It will never happen with the current GOP House and Senate, but it’s nice to hear Obama finally being vocal about it. While we’re talking about currently pie-in-the-sky ideas, how about doing away with private campaign donations and making federal elections publicly funded like in other countries? Yeah, I know, it’s too hilarious to imagine here in the US.

      1. The Constitution can be changed. That’s why we have Amendments. Do you really think the Founding Fathers envisioned corporations and the extremely wealthy literally buying influence? If you think the current system is such a great one, explain why.

  2. But The Nation magzine, The Progressive, the NY Times, MSNBC, One Wisconsin Now, the Sierra Club, The Capital Times, NPR, People for the American Way, George Soros — THEY would be exempt? Right?

    1. The difference between progressives and conservatives is that progressives would like to remove all money from politics. Yes, that means both the Kochs and George Soros. Republicans don’t, as they like the current “pay to play” political system. Progressives want change…conservatives are totally cool with the status quo.

        1. I said progressives are in favor of removing dontations from both sides (ie. Soros and Koch). You ignored that completely and have continued to post mouth breather drivel.

          1. Did I ever deny Democrats get money from big donors? Are you able to follow the basic flow of this conversation, or is that asking too much of a troll like yourself?
