After being appointed to her position by Republican Gov. Scott Walker, Judge Michelle Havas is seeking a full term in office. Challenging Havas is Jean Kies, a 1991 graduate of Marquette University Law School who has been in private practice as an attorney for nearly 25 years. During that time Kies has represented clients in areas from family to administrative law in courts from municipal to federal.
In considering which candidate to support, I came up with one reason not to support Michelle Havas. While the fact that Havas was appointed to her seat by Gov. Walker is more than a little off-putting, a larger reason not to vote for Michelle Havas is the fact that she noted in a recent article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she admires the work and judicial philosophy of Justice Rebecca Bradley.
Havas considers Bradley a friend and says she admires her work and judicial philosophy but that many others urged her to seek appointment.
You’ll remember Justice Bradley was appointed to every one of her judicial seats by Gov. Walker, and you’ll also remember Justice Bradley for her promise to do the bidding of the big business lobby here in Wisconsin, as well as her stated belief that “homosexuals and drug addicts who do essentially kill themselves and others through their own behavior deservedly receive none” of her sympathy.
Zach, thank you.
