This little article is a bit dated…it’s been sitting in my virtual in-box for a couple of days but this morning’s announcement that former Vice President Joe Biden won the election in Georgia for a third time brought it the fore.
A judge assigned to a Republican-led lawsuit alleging widespread fraud in the presidential election in Georgia issued an order late Sunday night blocking plans to wipe or reset voting machines used in three counties in the state.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Batten Sr. revealed in his four-page directive that he held a hearing via Zoom Sunday evening on the suit — one of two cases filed in federal courts last week by Sidney Powell, an outspoken Texas attorney who joined President Donald Trump’s legal team earlier this month only to be dismissed from it a few days later.
Batten’s temporary restraining order issued after 10 p.m. Sunday applies to Dominion voting machines in Cobb and Gwinett counties, which favored President-elect Joe Biden, as well as smaller Cherokee County, which favored Trump.
“Defendants are hereby enjoined and restrained from altering, destroying, or erasing, or allowing the alteration, destruction, or erasure of, any software or data on any Dominion voting machine in Cobb, Gwinnett, and Cherokee Counties,” wrote Batten, an appointee of President George W. Bush.
Now there are several procedural issues around this to start with but I am not going to play lawyer on it. But of course, there are several conspiracy theories afloat about the voting machines in Georgia being set up to allow someone to manipulate the vote. Well, it seems to me that looking at the activity in Georgia over the past month…that’s pretty much been dis-proven.
A: On November 3, 2020, Georgia along with the rest of the nation held the presidential election using the ‘suspect’ voting machines and software and Joe Biden won.
B: Shortly after the November 3rd election, the State of Georgia conducted a hand recount…people actually handled the paper ballots and manually tallied the votes…and the results were essentially the same…and Joe Biden one. If the conspiracy theory around the machines were true, there should have been a pretty obvious and significant variance. But nope!
C: Georgia just completed another recount, this time using the voting machines again…and essentially the vote count is the same…and for the third time in a month…Joe Biden won in Georgia.
“It looks like Vice President Biden will be carrying Georgia, and he is our president-elect,” (Secretary of State Brad) Raffensperger, a Republican, said at a news conference after noting that no substantial changes have been seen in a second recount demanded by Republican President Donald Trump’s campaign.
Raffensperger said multiple investigations in Georgia have found no evidence of widespread fraud, as alleged by Trump.
Georgia really doesn’t need this side show and they are going to need to set up those machines for the January 5, 2021 Senate run off elections. And with the coming holidays they probably don’t have a lot of time to waste. Although clearing and programming the machines probably isn’t difficult…it probably isn’t a trivial task either…given the amount of testing that would be required and the amount of scrutiny this election will garner.
