“Is the GOP-run state Legislature at war with Milwaukee?” That’s the headline of a piece posted on JSOnline.com on Saturday, and it’s a pretty dumb question if you ask me. Even before such hot topics as residency and a proposed streetcar came before the Republican-dominated Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee last week, one City Hall partisan [...] I would like to thank long time reader and active commenter, forgotmyscreenname, for providing a link to the recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article about recent charges brought against 10 area residents for voter fraud. After having read the article, I wanted to follow up with a few comments here. Over the past decade, our Republican [...] Headline Stolen from Daniel Bice’s article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Sheriff David Clarke accuses county executive of ‘penis envy’“…says the man with the arsenal, badge, big horse and cowboy hat! Unsurprisingly the bold front page headline of the Saturday December 15, 2012 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was the lede for their story on the massacre in the elementary school in Connecticut. And they quoted from President Obama’s speech from the White House yesterday. BUT they changed the whole meaning of his words by editing the quote…shortening [...] this pretty much answers the question… The newspaper is in a difficult position. Circulation keeps plunging. Influence is all but gone. They barely cover the news themselves anymore. But they can win prizes for blockbusters. And that’s what drives them. I love blockbusters. The series the paper ran on the scam in day-care providers was [...] Milwaukee’s own Der Angriff endorses Scott Walker. No governor in recent memory has been so controversial. No governor in America is so polarizing. Everyone has an opinion about Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin. Here’s ours: We see no reason to remove Walker from office. We recommend him in the June 5 recall election. Walker’s rematch [...] Overall, Governor Walker’s demonstrated a real failure of leadership. Businesses have to have demand for what they do before they hire. And for whatever reason, Wisconsin companies are doing less hiring over the past few months than their peers in other states. Even the much-maligned Illinois has performed better. There is no obvious answer to [...] I thought newspapers were supposed to report news, not make it… It’s no wonder the Journal Sentinel isn’t much of a news source anymore. Starting January 4th, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s online edition, jsonline.com, will begin charging for $2.35/week for access. [...] |
