GOP “YouCut” Uncut

Eric Cantor needs some history lessons, as he introduces the latest GOP gimmick – YouCut – crowdsourcing the work that the GOP is unable to do on their own. Under the YouCut plan, you the people can go to Eric Cantor’s Republican Whip House web site to vote on the projects that you think should be cut.  Of course, the projects that you are voting on, much like a “well planned” RNC push poll, are those the GOP willingly attacks – like anti-union issues, campaign finance funds, CDBG block grant funds, etc.

This new venture in Republican gamesmanship, follows the demise of last spring’s, much touted, listening sessions launched under the brand National Council for a New America, where Cantor and his GOP cohorts were going to the people to hear their ideas for the future of America.  They managed to have one listening session in the entire year.  This initiative was so successful that less than a year later, the Minority Whip, Eric Cantor quietly suspended the program according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.   I guess Eric Cantor couldn’t sit still, since he followed up his “excellent idea” of 2009 with his new and improved “excellent idea” of 2010 – YouCut.

Personally when I heard the term “YouCut”, I thought of the self-mutilating rituals of emotionally distraught and damaged teenagers, typically girls, but also found in boys.

Here’s Eric Cantor introducing his “YouCut” program.

Steny Hoyer, the House Majority Whip responded to the gimmick with his own voting opportunity called GOPSpent, where you can see all the spending that the GOP did under the Bush years that have left us in the budget hole facing America today.

I was curious to see what people were saying on Twitter about #youcut and found two tweets that I loved:

You Cut Tweets

Wisconsin’s very own budget cutting, luminary, Paul Ryan (WI-01); seems to approve of the YouCut tactic given his comments on Facebook.  I love how he and Cantor use the right wing code words “permissive culture”.  It seems that they forget that the budget mess facing the country is primarily a result of their acquiescence to the actions of their former hero, George Bush.  Paul Ryan’s support of the plan has brought out the Tea Party elite, as you can see from some of the comments at his Facebook page, like this gem:

How ’bout cutting out anything that isn’t backed by an article of the Constitution?”

  1. YouCut is a joke. Tally up just how much of the budget all of those cuts total, and you’d find out it’s not that much.

  2. Start somewhere, something has to be done. Trim the budget to the bone. No to socialism and progressive thinking. Stick FIRMLY to the Constitution!!! No more to the “shove down the American throat” moves!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Hi Herb,
How about a suggestion of what you’d like to cut – Medicare, Medicaid, payments to doctors, military spending, the EPA, Dept of Education? It’s all fine and good to rail against progressive and socialist thinking, but until you have an idea beyond “trimming the budget to the bone”, I’m not buying it.
      Thanks for commenting.

      1. Sorry that you can’t see that America is at war with progressives, socialists, Markests and their Congress buddies. I don’t see anyway that you cannot see what is happening. Watch Glen Beck and you will get some truth. He has you nailed to the wall and I for one is proud of him!!!

          1. Hello Ed,
I just watched Glen Beck again tonight. I cannot see his program as just entertainment. I feel that his thoughts are towards trying to wake this country up before it is too late. It is your previledge to not beleive him but as for myself I find that he is calling our attention to the bad things that this administration and the Democrat Congress is trying to shove down our throats. It does not take a scholar to understand. The facts speak for themselves. The American People are not blind. Here is the best to you.

            1. I wasn’t describing Mr. Beck as an entertainer…it is the label he has chosen for himself on more than several ocassions. google it! When you say the American people are not blind, why don’t they see that he is manipulating them in a very Goebbels manner?

      2. What’s the matter, your food stamps run out? You need to put those work boots on and accomplish an honest days work. Cut out the new Obama health care bill and come up with something real. It don’t take a bright person long see we can’t keep to this path of destruction.

      3. Hello MadCityMan,
Cut the EPA to the bone. You asked. Keep the rest and cut out graft. Put the moneys in the Ha,Ha,Ha so called Health Bill and put some of the money back into the already existing programs and strengthning them. Cut out giving and buying off dictators and countries that don’t give a twit about Americans. The Democrats are trying to buy even the churchs and religious groups by promising them the moon. DO NOT TAKE POLITICS TO THE PULPITS OF THIS COUNTRY. WAKE UP RELIGIONS, THE WOLF IS AT THE DOOR!!! The Constitution does not permit this. Go back to the basics. Vote out the wreckers of our society, for your family and the future familys to come!!!!

    1. Who, Bush?

No, I’m perfectly happy with who we elected in 2008, and I think he’s done a decent job in the face of united opposition from the Party of No.

      1. The party of hog, hasn’t accomplished anything but absolute take over. Small government with limited interference with our lives is the best. Uncle Sam, er Obama is trying to tell me when to go to bed and what to eat and is in everything we try to do. Enough is Enough. Too many lies from Washington and too much twisting of the truth to make thing seem to be what they are not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. You Democrats have to blame everything on the past, you can’t do anything about the future. Sorry you feel so lonely.

    1. I’m just pointing out that George W. Bush was far from being a small government conservative, and it’s thanks to him that we had even more government intrusion into our lives.

      1. You must be reading the comic books. He can’t hold a candle to Obama’s spending and philosophy. Even a kid knows you can buy when the piggie bank is empty. Too bad some grownups can’t understand the same thing!!! Lord help this country before it is too late to turn back.

        1. Herb, did our nation’s budget deficit grow or shrink under “fiscally responsible” conservatives like George W. Bush, George Bush “41” and Ronald Reagan?

            1. I know you don’t want to answer because the truth hurts. Under Presidents Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43, the federal budget deficit grew, and it was only under Democrat Bill Clinton that the country actually eliminated that deficit and starting running a surplus.

              Thanks for playing!

              1. In my opinion, Raegan was a great President, not like the one we have now. Go Glen Beck and Fox News. Maybe some light of truth will come thru!!

                1. Your watching the wrong channel. Turn to MSNBC and you’ll see some real truth, like how Rand Paul doesn’t support the ADA or anti-discrimination laws. This is the party you support.

              2. Sorry Zach, but Clinton didn’t have a surplus during his administration.

                http://www.craigsteiner.us/articles/16

And even then, Bush inherited a recession and massive cuts in the military. Bush cut taxes to kick-start the economy then 9/11 came and we had to spend on the military.

Did you once hear Bush complain about the mess inherited from Clinton’s administration? I’m not completely exonerating Bush, but let’s play fair.

                1. Yeah, because I’m inclined to believe a guy who’s a software developer, not an economist, and who’s a conservative to boot (as if he’s got no axe to grind).

                  1. Sure, it was written by a conservative, do you think a liberal would write it? The fact of the matter is all the tools are there to see for yourself. The national debt increased every year during Clinton’s administration. You can go to the Dept. of Treasury website and mine the date on your own. If it’s wrong, rebut.

  4. You mean the President’s private channel. They have kissed his ___ an awful lot. Just look at the ratings. Truth wins out every time.

  5. Here is a GOOD WORD for John McCain. A vet like him deserves praise and should have no trouble getting re-elected. He has stood up and told it like it is. We need more patriots like him!!! There are too many out there that would try and destroy the good things for their own bad things. This country MUST WAKE UP TO THE REALITY THAT WE ARE GOING DOWN A SINK-HOLE OF DEMOCRATIC DISASTER!!! I am really afraid of the future for all who follow their dreams. We must get back to the basics before it is too late. The lies must stop that we are hearing from Washington. The lions must start to lay down with the lambs of reason. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ITS GREAT PEOPLE. TEA PARTY PEOPLE, DON’T LET US DOWN!

  6. Some people loose their courage and their cool easy. They try to get around standing for what they truly want to say. Is that being a coward or just being plain yellow?

    1. Loose is what you wish your belt is after Thanksgiving Dinner, lose is what you vow when that weight gain doesn’t go away.

      1. Hay again Ed,
I am just trying to let my feelings out. I am so disgusted with how this Country is being pushed around by its elected officials–the arrogant manner that they lie and stretch the Constitution to make it seem the proper way to go. Common sense does not exist in Washington. If it does it is only in a few and they get pushed aside for WHAT?? Spend, spend, spend, and much more spend while so many people are out of work.

  7. I am appaled that the comments have not continued on this page. I am sure there are more people out there with more to say. I enjoyed trying to talk to the ones that had courage to come forth with their thoughts. Lets not become untalkave and try to reason with each other. There is surely much more to say!!! We all should have something to get off our chests. Now is the time to fight for the TRUE AMERICAN WAY!!! I believe in the Constitution and its strict enforcement. The world government is not our goverment and we should look out for America–FIRST!! Our churches should remain untouched by the government!! No bribery from government money to influence them!!!!

  8. GLOBAL GOVERANCE–A BIG MISTAKE FOR AMERICA!! WAKE UP BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!! Has it become such that ordinary people must have government to run our lives? Change is being forced upon all of us by the government. Older people are being shoved to the back by healthcare. We are losing everything we hold dear. Both parties are selling us down the drain. Smaller government is the answer!!!

  9. Question–If a bank is going to foreclose on a mortgage and take the property and then sell it for a redictulously low price, why can’t they make a simple deal with the people living there and let them stay? There are many properties advertising sale for a low price that people could make very small payments as a resale and still live there. Isn’t it good to protect these people? The bank could still get its money.

    1. So I could buy a house, not make payments, and have the bank resell it to me at a much lower price? Sounds like an incentive to not make payments.

      1. This might be–But if the bank is dumping it for a small amount, why not help the person out if they can make and do make the small payments? At least the place would have a caretaker and the person a roof over their heads.

      2. Which is exactly why banks aren’t really too keen on it.

There’s a lot of blame to go around when it comes to the housing crisis. Some banks are at fault for handing out mortgages to folks without doing all their due diligence, while some consumers are at fault for buying way more house than they could really afford.

        1. Some banks are at fault for handing out mortgages to folks without doing all their due diligence, while some consumers are at fault for buying way more house than they could really afford.

But that’s exactly how any intelligent person would predict they’d behave when Fannie & Freddie changed their policy to take subprime loans off the banks hands.

It’s like when I offer my kids a nickel for every stick they pick up off the lawn before I mow. I don’t really blame them for grabbing as many of the smallest ones they can, it’s my fault for not defining the rules better. And I have.

There were plenty of people on the big evil Wall Street telling anyone who would listen that the GSE’s accepting subprimes was a bad idea from the very beginning. They chose to ignore it. And it works so well to just blame others and play up the whole “Wall Street vs. Main Street” imaginary class war.

  10. Are all of the “smart” people afraid to talk with others? Here is the opportunity to reason with each other. America needs everyones opinion!!

    1. Is it wrong for big oil to buy politicians? How about big pharma, or the health insurance industry?

I’d argue we need to take special interest money out of politics, but unfortunately our Supreme Court has ruled that special interests (i.e. corporations, PACs, and lobby groups) have the right to free speech through spending money on elections.

      1. It is a weird world in which we live. There should at least be a limit on organizations and rich people. They infringe on the individual rights of those who are not rich.

          1. Should there not be a limit on people running for public office that are wealthy and buy their way in?

  11. Courious-Why does Obama always look on the right or left but never straight at the camera? Is it bacause he isn’t telling the truth??

  12. We need people like John McCain. Stop the garbage and stand behind him. There are a lot worse in Washington.

  13. I feel that he is trying to do the right thing. Unlike Pelose, Reed and Obama. He comes closer to standing up for the ordinary persons rights. Small government and individual rights are what the American people want. Bring back the Constitution in its origional form with no dumb changes, as the founding fathers saw it. The outdated idea is progressive and is wrong for our country.

  14. “Bring back the Constitution in its origional form with no dumb changes, as the founding fathers saw it.”

So only land owning white men can vote and slavery is allowed and no bill of rights? And no direct popular vote for Senate? Yeah, that’ll work!

  15. I am not opposed to the changes, I just believe it should be taught in schools and reasoned out in such a way that all young people will have an understanding of the basics. They seem to know nothing much about it. I am not trying to put race issues out there. Read the preamble and know it is for all Americans. God made us all equal in his eyes.

  16. We need all of the help that we can get to get the oil cleaned up and stopped. It is a shame that all of the help is not being used because of some law written a long time ago. We need to keep the union advocates out of it, if they aren’t going to help!!! As patriotic Americans they should be there if they can and not hold up progress. The Dutch offered help and it was not used, WHY??? Put gas into all of the idle boats and ships and clean up that mess!!! The Federal Government is not doing its job!!!!!!

    1. Wouldn’t that be interfering with private enterprise and states’ rights?

      1. I feel that this is necessary. The Federal Government should have taken charge of this national emergency but did not. They wanted a photo opt for Obama who is at a total loss. His inexperience shows badly. Those people down there are suffering and need something done now. Stop the leak is the first priority. I fear for the money that BP is to put into a fund, for it will not reach the right people. The Fed has bungled all such things. He just wants to waste it. He is more interested in Cap & Trade, and is using the oval office to push it down American throats!!

  17. Hey,
