Scott Walker isn’t even growing employment when he’s empowered to

“When developers, builders and land owners want to do business with the City of Milwaukee, they know who to call … Department of City Development Commissioner Richard “Rocky” Marcoux.

That’s how developments such as the Menomonee River Valley, the former Tower Automotive site and the Beerline get done.

When the same people want to do business with Milwaukee County, they call …

“That’s the problem. There’s nobody in charge. There’s no quarterback. When it comes to creating jobs, to getting things done, they don’t do anything. They do absolutely nothing,” said one frustrated local developer who asked not to be identified in this report.

There is no leadership at the county. They don’t do job creation. They don’t do jobs. Nothing. It’s frustrating. They just fight with each other,” said another.

So County Executive Walker has the opportunity to create jobs in Milwaukee County and hasn’t acted on it yet? He has a budgeted executive position that can help drive job growth in the county and it remains unfilled? How is County Executive Walker going to drive job growth on the state level when he can’t do it on the much more manageable scale of Milwaukee county?

And yes, before the Walker partisans jump up and down after reading the complete article and exclaim, but Mr. Nardelli blames the board and the chair of the Economic and Community Development committee for being obstructionists, and they very well may have been.

But when everything is said and done, it falls on the County Executives office to get the job done. It’s up to County Executive Scott Walker to fill vacancies and keep county government working. In his campaigning for governor, County Executive Walker says jobs are a priority, that he knows how to grow jobs in Wisconsin. But in the actual trenches of county government, he’s demonstrated exactly the opposite!
