  1. How about the part that forces you to buy products from the insurance companies? Guess there just weren’t enough panels to mention that one.

The coverage until 26 thing still just puzzles me why it’s such a big deal. It’s funny…it’s always been pretty apparent that there’s a maturity gap between college kids & those that go straight to work or to tech schools. This is just a further example & widens the gap. The term helicopter parents has become universally understood in recent years – and it’s now been extended all the way to…and through college and apparently up to 4 years beyond college. Man, at some point you’ve gotta cut the cord.

The other thing about the coverage until 26 is that it only makes it more apparent the total disregard for the real underlying problems. Why do people want this? Why is it such a big deal? Presumably, it’s because unemployment is really high right now and since it’s tough to get a job, it’s tough to get insurance. But…a-ha why should health insurance be tied to employment? That’s a problem (created by the federal government by the way) that they did not touch with the health care reform. Again an 80-20 issue or better – widely supported by individuals and both sides of the aisle that was just ignored. Why not address health insurance portability? Hell, businesses everywhere would line up to support creating a framework to get them out of the health insurance administration & management business. Why not? Because it would’ve helped improve the status quo, solved a ton of problems but unfortunately for us, didn’t further anyone’s agenda.

  2. Locke,
I agree with you 100% about health care portability – however to me the solution for portability would be national health insurance. The paperwork would go down, the total administrative costs now incurred by insurance companies all over the country would be reduced, the stress of uncertainty associated with lack of health insurance coverage would disappear, people would more willingly take on new jobs knowing that they didn’t have to worry about coverage, and the dreaded insurance companies that you are forced to buy from (as you so eloquently say) would slowly wither away….
Now that is real change we can believe in!

  3. Yeah right it has all to do with just being against Obama and not against the actual legislation. I think plenty of things are good, but it doesn’t mean I think the government should provide them. I think it would be great if everyone had a nice car, house, and could take an expensive vacation too. Does that mean government should provide everything to everyone?

Also the age 26 thing is bogus. Since when is being 26 still considered being a kid?! I guess you can lay around mom and dad’s basement until you are nearly 30 and have to grow up to face the real world.
