Blessed are the meek…..just not in Walker’s Wisconsin

Matthew 5:5 – Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Just don’t tell that to the 65,000 poor people leaving Wisconsin’s health insurance programs thanks to cuts in Medicaid approved by the Legislature’s Republican-controlled budget committee.

Apparently Scott Walker and his Republican rubber-stamps in the Legislature aren’t fans of the New Testament.

  1. Of course they believe in the New Testament Sir, that is why they are in such a hurry to ruin the Earth. They aren’t getting it anyway so might as well wreck it while they have the chance.

  2. Seriously? I guess it’s ok to use the Bible to twist political arguments when you want to. Have to start calling you the Religious Left. This is disgusting. The Left mocks Christianity until they can use it to make a lame political attack. Shame!

I highly doubt Jesus was referring to government subsidies when he said this. But hey, if you want to go down that road, read up on his words in the parable of the workers (Matthew 20:1-16) — maybe he was referring to grumbling public workers.

      1. I didn’t say you specifically did. My reference was to those who on the Left, including some that post here, that mock Chrisitan beliefs (like the in other post), especially when inserted into a political context. But those very same people will applaud your “brilliance” here, when normally they would be decrying any religious references, saying they don’t belong/aren’t relevant, separation of church and state, blah blah blah.

Here’s a re-write of your original comment, since you weren’t accusing me of mocking Christianity (despite linking the mocking of Christianity with my “lame political attack.”

“This is disgusting. The Left (but not Zach) mocks Christianity until they can use it to make a lame political attack (like Zach’s totally lame political attack). Shame (Presumably for mocking Christianity, which doesn’t apply to Zach, but then shame on Zach for the lame political attack)!”

        2. If the right would exhibit any actual understanding of the teachings of Christ, I wouldn’t have a problem with them…but instead they seem to insist on being ‘old testament christians’ of the eye for an eye persuasion rather than the do unto others…

    1. So are you arguing that we as a society shouldn’t try to help those who are less fortunate?

That’s the thing about so many Christian conservatives; they love to talk about how religious they are, yet they care little for the lessons the Bible teaches about helping those among us who are less fortunate.
