Scott Walker contemplating expanding Act 10 to include firefighters & police officers

It should surprise absolutely no one that Gov. Scott Walker is considering expanding the anti-union restrictions of Act 10 to police officers and firefighters if he wins reelection.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said this week that state Republicans might expand the state’s controversial restrictions on collective bargaining to the two sectors spared from the new law more than two years ago.

Wisconsin Public Radio reports that Walker commented during a town hall meeting Monday that Republicans in the state Legislature are open to expanding the restrictions to police officers and firefighters. He added that he had not made a proposal to further the restrictions.

“There are some voices in the Legislature that talked about [expansion],” Walker said at the forum in Milwaukee, before defending his reforms. “Public employees across the state have seen that the fears that some of them projected just haven’t happened.”

As I noted earlier, a move to expand Act 10 to police officers and firefighters should surprise absolutely no one, because if Scott Walker’s shown one thing it’s that he’ll turn on a political “ally” in a nanosecond if it benefits his own political ambitions.

  1. Zach – The article you quoted is dated 07/31/2013. Since it is a one-year-old quote, reporters have a great excuse to ask Scott if this is still the tenor of the legislature one year later.

  2. Police and Fire, Police and Fire, Police and Fire, Police and Fire!!!!! What about BUS DRIVERS! ACT 10 also exempts them!

  3. Public workers police fire and ems should all be able to collective bargen. When you need them there there but when u take everything away is it worth them risking thrre lives for u if u cant help them? Only fair
