This IS Personal!

Recently one of my favorite writers, William Rivers Pitt, write a column about the \"values voter\" summit and the remarks of Mike Huckabee. We know Mike Huckabee as the ex governor of Arkansas, presidential hopeful and fox news contributor had this to say:

When Republicans attack health care reform, Democrats like to counter by accusing Republicans of wanting to repeal a law that requires insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions. According to Republican Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, that’s exactly right. People with pre-existing conditions, he explains are like houses that have already burned down.

“It sounds so good, and it’s such a warm message to say we’re not gonna deny anyone from a preexisting condition,” Huckabee explained at the Value Voters Summit today. “Look, I think that sounds terrific, but I want to ask you something from a common sense perspective. Suppose we applied that principle [to] our property insurance. And you can call your insurance agent and say, “I’d like to buy some insurance for my house.” He’d say, “Tell me about your house.” “Well sir, it burned down yesterday, but I’d like to insure it today.” And he’ll say, “I’m sorry, but we can’t insure it after it’s already burned.” Well, no preexisting conditions.”

Parts of President Obama\'s Historic Health Care Reform start today. I was still going to pass on this story until I saw the the GOP Pledge, which as a centerpiece if to “repeal health-care law”. Then I saw the Three stooges(sorry I mean the self described young guns), in this story.

“The Republican “Young Guns” crew said they’ll need GOP control of the White House in order to follow through on their pledge to repeal healthcare reform.”

Before I get attacked about the “whole” of the health insurance reform(and boy does the health insurance industry need reforming), I want to focus on what is going into effect today(FYI -I was not for the bill in its entirety either)

Under those portions: insurance companies can no longer deny coverage to children based on pre-existing health conditions.

They also can’t drop people if they get sick.

Young adults can stay on their parents’ healthcare plan until they’re 26 as long as they haven’t been offered coverage through an employer.

Full disclosure is I am a little skewed here, being a cancer survivor, but it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how important these issues are. I did not see them being addressed when the republicans were in control. Americans getting dropped when they are sick because they had acne as a kid, or were beaten by their spouse, is not only wrong its morally wrong and should of been illegal to begin with! Pitt breaks it down in bigger numbers that I wont go into here, BUT I do not think that I should of been sent to die because I got cancer. I know that actually having to pay benefits out to the hospitals when people get sick, hurts company profits and CEO pay.

So when I think that Huckabee compared me to a house that has been burned down or when Ryan makes one of main platform ideas to overturn healthcare reform(not bring back jobs to his district, but protect corporate profits), I do take that personally. The Republicans had complete control of our government for eight years and left us with a coffee can health care system. They then sat out the whole health care debate and did nothing but complain and delay the process. They of course are in no hurry as they have the best health care coverage our tax payer money can buy!

So if you, or someone in your friend or family group has cancer, diabetes, MS, Parkinsons, or any illness that requires medical attention, just know that the Republican Party considers you a drag to society and that if they get back into control, they will do their best to treat you as such!
UPDATE:

I just saw this on the The Christian Left on facebook Sharron Angle, tea party candidate from NV, shows that the only health care that should be covered is something that might affect her personally. She also takes a swipe at all parents of children with autism. Heaven Help us if some of these people get elected to our government.
